Club History

The Pacific Conchological Club was organized in 2003 as a result of a merger between the Pacific Shell Club and the Conchological Club of Southern California. Its mission is to further the interest in shell collecting and malacology and to provide a forum for individuals who love shells and other marine life.

The PCC is the oldest continuously meeting shell club in America.  We inherit this honor through the CCSC which first met in 1902 as The Tuesday Shell Club and has continued under a series of names through to the present.

The Pacific Shell Club was organized in 1945 at the Museum of Natural History and has met continuously since then. Las Conchas, the PSC newsletter was started in 1969 and continues as the PCC newsletter.

Club Activities

The regular meetings of the Pacific Conchological Club devote time to many facets of shell collecting:

 1. The where, when, and how, to find shells.

 2. Cleaning and preserving shells and marine life.

 3. Studies of the families and species of shells.

 4. Films and slides of shore and underwater life.

 5. Books and periodicals.

 6. Travels of members.

 7. Marine ecology.

 8. Trading of shells.

 9. Scuba diving for shells.

 10. Identification of collections.

We are often entertained by knowledgeable speakers on the subjects delineated above. There is always time for socializing, and refreshments are served at each meeting.

We have two special social events each year, our Christmas Party in December and our Shell Auction & Potluck Luncheon in June.

Guests are always welcomed and may enroll as members any month the Club is in session.
